About this crossing
Here the Pan-Philippine Highway runs out of land. Matnog, at the southern tip of Luzon in Sorsogon, faces Samar across the San Bernardino Strait, and FastCat's roll-on/roll-off catamarans carry vehicles and foot passengers over the gap to Dapdap in Allen, Northern Samar, in an hour. The three departures are spaced exactly eight hours apart, and the sailings from Dapdap fall midway between them, so a boat crosses the strait in one direction or the other every four hours. The night crossing is therefore as regular as the daytime ones, which matters to drivers who reach the tip of Bicol late. Times for the northbound leg are on the Allen to Matnog page.
