About Guemes Island Ferry
No road reaches Guemes Island, so a single county car ferry from Anacortes carries the island's traffic, from school buses to logging lorries and emergency vehicles. Skagit County runs it, and our timetable shows 163 sailings a week in each direction, each crossing taking five minutes.
The fare system is unusual. Every ticket is a round trip and is checked only when boarding at Anacortes, so nothing is collected on the Guemes side. Fares rise in the summer peak season, and non-peak tickets cannot be used then; senior and disabled fares are sold on showing ID.
Loading is first come, first served, and drivers are asked to be in their vehicles with tickets ready well before departure. The schedule also stops for a lunch break in the middle of the day, so plan a midday trip around the gap, and buy online or through the county's app to keep the terminal queue short.
