About this crossing
Commuter traffic on every WSF route runs mostly eastbound from the islands and peninsulas in the morning and westbound in the afternoon and evening, according to the operator, so early in the day this is the busy direction. The Bainbridge tollbooth charges vehicles only: walk-on passengers and cyclists travel to Seattle without paying, because their fare is taken as a round trip at Colman Dock. The terminal sits at the end of the road that runs about 13 miles from the Poulsbo exit on SR 3, and WSF's directions send drivers from the Hood Canal Bridge and Kingston the same way. Kitsap Transit buses call there too. On the Seattle side, the Amtrak station at 3rd and King is about seven blocks' walk from the dock.
