About this crossing
Crossing the Saanich Inlet by boat takes drivers round the Malahat, the stretch of Highway 1 between Greater Victoria and the Cowichan Valley. When that road was shut at night in November 2021, BC Ferries pointed travellers to this route and, by day, to the Salt Spring pairing of Swartz Bay–Fulford Harbour with Vesuvius Bay–Crofton. Vehicles must be no longer than 40 feet (12 metres), or 30 feet for buses, and weigh under 8,000 kg gross. Sailings cannot be booked, so traffic boards in order of arrival. The Brentwood Bay terminal, about half an hour's drive north of Victoria at the end of Verdier Avenue, has no parking of its own.
