About this crossing
On busy days the posted departure times on this crossing can stop applying. When queues build up at either end, BC Ferries switches to shuttle sailings: the cable ferry unloads, takes on whoever is waiting and heads straight back, returning to the timetable once the backlog has cleared. A service notice and the screens at the terminal say when this is happening. Fares on the Denman run are sold as returns, so one payment covers both directions and nobody asks for a ticket on the second leg. Islanders leaving a car at Denman West to cross on foot have nine free spaces there, with a 48-hour limit.
