The Matnog to Bogo ferry is a long-haul roll-on/roll-off service run by Lite Ferries that connects the southern tip of Luzon with northern Cebu in a single overnight sailing. Boats leave Matnog in Sorsogon province — the traditional jump-off point from Bicol to the Visayas — and sail directly to Polambato Port in Bogo City, Cebu, bypassing the usual island-hopping route through Samar and Leyte.
This is a genuinely long crossing. The passage takes roughly seven to nine hours, with departures scheduled late at night (around 11:45 PM) on selected days of the week. The vessel most associated with the route is Lite Ferry 29, a RORO ship that carries buses, trucks, private cars and motorcycles alongside foot passengers.
Why this route matters
Before this direct service, travellers and cargo moving between Luzon and northern Cebu had to take the short Matnog-Allen crossing into Samar, then drive many hours down through Samar and Leyte before catching another boat to Cebu. The Matnog-Bogo RORO collapses that into one continuous sailing, giving:
- A shorter, simpler door-to-door journey for Luzon-to-northern-Cebu traffic.
- Direct vehicle transport for logistics operators and road-trippers who want to keep their vehicle with them.
- A straightforward link into Lite Ferries' wider Visayas and Mindanao network from Bogo.
Passenger fares run roughly ₱1,100 to ₱1,330 depending on accommodation, with vehicle rates ranging from around ₱2,500 for a motorcycle up to about ₱17,000 for a van. Because it is a weather-exposed open-sea route, sailings can be adjusted or suspended, so always confirm the current schedule with Lite Ferries before travelling.
