About this crossing
Hornby is two ferries away from Vancouver Island, and this ten-minute hop is the second of them. After the cable ferry from Buckley Bay lands at Denman West, drivers cross the island by road, roughly a quarter of an hour, to reach Gravelly Bay on its east side. Without a car it is harder going: neither Denman terminal has a public transport connection, and Gravelly Bay offers just five parking spaces. Tickets for Hornby are sold at Gravelly Bay up to three minutes before sailing, and the price includes the ride back.
