A day in Maasin is possible from Cebu without an overnight stay: OceanJet's fast craft arrives in the morning, and the Maasin to Cebu boat sails back in mid-afternoon. Southern Leyte's capital stands on the south-west coast of Leyte island, looking out towards Bohol.
From Maasin, OceanJet and FastCat both run on to Surigao on Mindanao, while Hilongos, 29 km up the coast, has its own direct service from Cebu.
