Samar has a single direct sea link with Cebu City in these timetables, and it ends at Calbayog, a city on the island's western shore facing the Samar Sea. With a 19:00 departure and a 07:00 arrival, all twelve hours of Cokaliong's passage fall overnight.

Calbayog can also be reached from Maya, at the northern tip of Cebu island, where Lite Ferries sails every night (Maya to Calbayog) for anyone prepared to go north by road first. The other practical way from Cebu to Samar is the fast craft to Ormoc, followed by the road north through Leyte and over the San Juanico Bridge.
